“It looks like somebody made a mistake,” claims Michael Goldfarb in his pseudo-exposé on Obama’s claims regarding McCain being in the pocket of the oil industry. Had Michael been more concerned with promoting the stated addage from McCain’s Official Blog Site “A Blog You Can Believe In,” rather than smearing even at the cost of disinforming the public, maybe he would have realized that Michael is the one who made the mistake.
It winds up being that, in fact, Obama has received more money from the EMPLOYEES and FAMILIES of EMPLOYEES for only a few companies. The total difference from over 21 companies sums to $163,327 in McCain’s favor! The total amount of contributions that McCain has received for the period in the referenced report from the Oil Industry was $1.3 Million, overshadowing Obama’s $394,000 by just over 3 times as much. The mistake you made Michael, was either not checking your facts well enough, or thinking that we are all too stupid to realize this type of meaningless spin on the facts.
Even his own source admits:
“Comparing Obama’s and McCain’s financial ties to the oil industry, there’s no question that McCain has benefited more from the industry’s contributions, just as his Republican Party has for years and years.”
In addition, there was a noted spike in McCain’s oil industry contributions from the graph on Michael’s sources site right after McCain started changing his position on offshore drilling. So, the real question is are they responding to McCain’s change in stance or just doing as usuall and putting the republican party in their pocket?
So I say once again, McCain vs Obama?! More like disinformation vs disinformation!
This a great reason to limit campaign spending and have it pubicly funded only. It seems like the only way to keep the blatant favoritism down to a quite roar.
