Many of you have heard claims by various individuals, and from various sources on the Internets 😉 regarding different feature flaws of various mobile platforms, hardware/software alike. We here at VeracityNation plan on lending some clarity regarding those claims. Every week we will post 1 to 2 fallacies that are being propagated throughout the Internets ;). Remember, if you have a request, to comment on the TEK-Korner page HERE where we will do our darnedest to cut through the yimmer yammer, and get to the facts.
To kick off the this post series, lets start with a common touchscreen fallacy regarding the multi-touch feature:
Claim: Only capacitive screens can support multi-touch feature.
Status: False
Research: As can be plainly seen in the video below, as well as in other videos from Stantum the multi-touch feature can clearly be supported on resistive screens:
_
Elaboration: Physically speaking there is nothing preventing a resistive display from being configured to respond to multi-touch input. Capacitive displays which are not physically configured for multi-touch input are also not capable of multi-touch input. The bottom line is that the display feature set will be limited to how either input display technology is physically configured and supported by the software.
Another fallacy is the “Zero Pressure/Force” concept of capacitive screens…to be continued next week!
